Tis the Season

Late October/early November means Clementine season, so as usual we have our counter stocked with these sweet miniature kid-friendly oranges. Our kids are strongly encouraged to eat at LEAST 2 fruits daily (more is recommended!), so they like Clementine season because it means quick and easy doses of their required fruit intake.
Honey crisp apples are next on our list of favorite nature's candies. In St. Louis we enjoy these apples from late summer into early winter. If you want to pay for it, you can have them shipped year round! They are so fabulous, if you can afford it, it's worth it. Luckily, l can still find them at the Dierbergs in my neighborhood on occasion.
We also love Bartlett pears. And tis the season for this sweet juicy gem as well!

Several weeks ago we tried our first Pomegranate. This most unusual fruit had many many tiny seeds which we had to separate from the peel and internal white membrane. The Pomegranate seeds (the part you eat) were full of sweet juice which we decided tastes like a combination of cranberry and carrot juice.

Share your favorites with us! Maybe we will find something new to love along with our old favorites.

Genesis 1:11-13
Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.

My kids are major fruit eaters! We can't keep anything in our house more than a couple days. Last year sometime Samantha picked up a PLUOT at the grocery store. We'd never had them or heard of them before...so we bought a few to bring home to try. They were great! If you like plums, you'll like these. They're a hybrid of plum and apricot. Although they're a good source of Vitamin A, they do have a high sugar content. If you haven't tried them, do...they have several varieties and your boys might like the ones called "Dinosaur Eggs".
