Toadally Cool!

Over the 10 yrs that we have lived in our home, we've enjoyed the excitement of finding myriad wildlife and other critters in our very own backyard. The list includes groundhogs, small red foxes, skunks, raccoons, snapping and box turtles, snakes, frogs, hawks, turkey vultures, ducks, woodpeckers and a countless variety of beautiful MO birds. We love having "common ground" forest behind our backyard. It separates us from the neighbors in the subdivision behind our home, and gives us a great deal of privacy and quiet, compared to the racetrack that is 50 feet from our front porch. :(
Recently, when the kids went out to play in the yard, they almost squished this cute little guy! He stood very still while I photographed him several times, and he even let us touch his rough, bumpy back.
Our own back yard never stops providing opportunities for a lesson in nature and science. We home school year round, so these opportunities are never wasted.
